Statistics on prescription drug abuse

•  Today there are more than 7 million prescription pain pill abusers in the United States, more than cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, Ecstasy, and inhalants combined. (National Drug Advisory Council)

•  Federal Officials say that no prescription drug in the last 20 years has been so widely abused since its release (referring to Oxycontin)

•  From 1997 to 2004 there was a 556% increase in the sales of Oxycontin.

•  The Unites States represents 4% of the world’s population, and ingests 75% of all the prescription medications manufactured.

•  The relapse rate for Oxycontin addicts very high. Less than 3% successfully recover and maintain sobriety for more than one year.
